3D ANIMATION
Claw Machine
About
For this 3D animation, I started the project with a storyboard in Procreate so I could figure out my camera angles and composition. I wanted to have around 20 seconds of video, so about 600-630 frames animated in Cinema 4D then pieced together in Preimere Pro with music and sound effects.
I modeled the claw machine with working mechanical
parts, plus a control panel with a timer, joystick,
and grab button. I filled the machine with several
models I’ve made, as well as a few filler models
from CGTrader.
I used the C4D dynamics engine and applied rigid body
tags to the objects, then let them fall naturally so
the toys had a realistic stacked look. I also wanted
to focus on adding realistic physics to the claw, so
I spent a lot of time on the sway and tilt motions.
I modeled several objects separately, including the Psyduck and the Pokeball.
The animation uses two cameras and was set with a floor and backdrop that I modeled to resemble an arcade. When the claw descends, the camera switches to an overhead POV. For added detail, I gave this camera its own lighting system so that you can see the claw reflected on the surface of the Pokeball.
