Lighting Study
About
When I was first learning Cinema 4D, one of the biggest things I practiced was using different lighting setups. Each of these studies goes for a specific lighting style. The shoes above were lit with magenta spotlights to get the harsh color separation, while the backdrop was backlit with a softer purple.
Dramatic silhouette lighting is one of my favorites, and for this scene I wanted the shoe to feel like a product shot with really intense contrast. While the first study focused on energy, this silhouette study focuses a lot on form.
Golden hour style lighting was the inspiration below. There’s more moderate contrast, soft shadows, curves, and a warmer atmosphere overall.
I wanted the final lighting study to explore using a specific directional light source with sharp shadows, strong directional angles, and also some subtle ambient lighting. Unlike the other three studies, this focuses on space and composition.
